Is blogging relevant for spiritual businesses in 2023?
10 Reasons Your Spiritual Business Could Benefit from A Blog
Are blogs dead?
Short answer: No! Definitely not.
It may be easy to think that blogging isn’t relevant anymore with the explosion of social media, video content, podcasting and TikTok.
However, for businesses with an online presence, blogging is still as relevant as it ever was. If you run a missioned spiritual business and offer services online, then you could be missing out on reaching many new people by not investing time into a blog.
Blogging isn’t about a quick fix, get sales fast scheme. It takes consistency, effort and some strategy. Statistics have shown that 60% of people read a blog post at least once a week. It is still a place where people turn to find valuable information they can trust about something in particular and to receive answers to their questions.
And I know that you know there are plenty of people out there in the world who are looking for exactly what you offer. By having a blog, you increase your chances of those people finding you.
Here are 10 of the most powerful reasons why blogging is still relevant. After reading this you should consider starting (or maintaining an existing) blog for your spiritual business.
1. It’s low risk with the potential for high reward
You don’t need to invest a ton of money to get a blog up and running. All you need is a basic website! If your area of expertise is something that is relatively niche and not a lot of people out there are already doing what you specialise in, you’re in a good place to benefit from writing a blog. This is because there won’t be as much competition to rank high on Google searches.
2. Improve your discoverability through SEO
Writing blog posts floods your website with keywords that someone might search for if they are looking for what you are offering, teaching or sharing information about.
The more you do this, and the more good content that is relevant you have on your website, the more likely Google is going to display your content when someone searches for something.
When it comes to writing for SEO there is definitely some research and strategy involved. Find out what keywords people search when looking up subjects relevant to your spiritual business.
For example, how to channel my spirit guides or what is the best type of yoga to open my pineal gland. This can inform you about the types of posts to write and the keywords to use.
If your website is on WordPress there are plugins like Yoast SEO that can help you. You can also invest money into SEO optimisation and keyword research by hiring an expert or by buying a subscription to a platform like SEMrush.
3. Blogging is an effective way to increase traffic without ads
And it’s organic, not paid which makes it feel more genuine and authentic. People are more likely to trust a blog post on Google than one of the Ads that pop up at the top of a Google search.
A blog is a key component of a content marketing strategy.
By creating and sharing valuable, relevant and high-quality content consistently to a clearly-defined audience, you will start attracting your ideal clients. A blog can bring direct traffic to your website through Google but also other avenues.
For example, another website or blogger with massive traffic might see your post and link to it in one of their blogs which will drive loads of new traffic to your website.
4. Pinterest utilises blog posts to increase website traffic
You can combine a blogging strategy with a Pinterest strategy to further increase organic traffic to your website. Every blog post you can create a suite of pins for Pinterest. Pinterest is essentially a visual version of Google and is another amazing way for your content to be discovered.
5. Niche down before you focus on SEO
Before you overwhelm yourself with figuring out SEO, the best thing is to just get started and produce as much valuable content as you can consistently.
Hone into your ideal clients and start to formulate a niche as well to increase your chances of ranking higher on SEO.
For example, instead of targeting people who are looking for yin yoga, you could focus on attracting people who are looking for ways to use yin yoga to connect to light beings.
This is a way for you to craft a unique offering that is based on your gifts and special area of interest as opposed to something generic.
If you are an astrologer, you could offer astrology specifically for people looking to find a place to live where they will meet their soul mate.
6. Position yourself as an authority
By consistently publishing informative and insightful content on your blog, you can establish yourself as an authority in your spiritual niche. This can help build trust and credibility with your potential clients and students.
Blogging is a great way to showcase your wisdom, your experience and to express yourself through a medium that many people can connect deeply with. A lot of us find it much easier to express our thoughts, ideas and who we are through writing. If you are one of these people, you will certainly enjoy the blogging process!
When you blog, it is also an opportunity to weave in your paid offerings and services and to share with your audience what you do and how you can help them in a way that is relevant to the blog post. Always link to other posts and relevant offerings throughout your article!
Plus when someone is on your blog, they are already on your website – they will be able to see your menu and anything on your sidebar. They will have a great idea of what you are all about just by spending their precious time on your corner of the internet.
7. Blogging helps to build your email list
Leading on from the previous point, blogs are a great way to grow your email list. This is a really good indicator that blogging is still relevant! You can do this by having opt-in forms in the sidebar, throughout the post or as a pop-up.
It is best to give a reader something in exchange for their email list such as a free masterclass, a meditation download or a e-book or some other PDF download. If the opt-in freebie is relevant to the subject of the blog, it will likely convert a lot of people into leads. T
his is how you can start to create an evergreen sales funnel for one of your paid offerings. The blog leads to a gift which leads to a paid offer.
8. You own your blog (& your email list)
Another major benefit to having a blog (and an email list) is that you own it. As long as we don’t own our social media accounts, blogging will still be relevant! You are in control of it and it can’t be taken away from you. With other social media channels, the content you share there doesn’t even belong to you.
Your content can be taken down and your account can be deleted and there’s nothing you can do about it. That’s why having a website, an email list and a blog (alongside socials) is so important! It is a very valuable business asset.
9. You can use a blog as part of a repurposing strategy
Another amazing reason why blogging is still relevant is that it can be a key part of a robust content repurposing strategy.
For example, let’s say you record a 20-minute video for YouTube and your podcast. You can then have this transcribed and then edit it into an SEO and well-formatted blog post.
This blog post can then be turned into a nourishing and educational email for your list and you could create 3-5 social media posts from it. You can also take short clips of key moments in the video to turn into Reels, TikToks and Shorts.
AI is starting to become really helpful for this type of content repurposing as it can transcribe audio for you and help you format it into a blog (we definitely would edit it yourself or have a real human edit it first before publishing it though!).
10. Blog content is evergreen
When you post on social media, release a podcast episode or upload a new video to YouTube, it will typically get lots of reach in the first few days or a week and then it will usually steadily decline as content is usually presented in a chronological order. If you run ads, you will only see results for the time that the ad is running.
However with a blog (and with Pinterest too), old posts, especially if they happen to be high-ranking on Google or Pinterest, can bring a consistent influx of traffic and potential clients to your business for a LONG time, we’re talking years! This is a pretty fantastic reason to have a blog as a spiritual business owner.
Side note- this is why it is important to update old blog posts, especially if they are really popular, just to make sure the information is still relevant, up to date and in line with your business as it evolves.
You can view having a blog as a self-sustaining long-term investment.
There you have 10 really good reasons why blogging is still relevant in 2023!
